Aurora Travel Guide
Welcome to Aurora, CO!
Aurora is the third largest city in Colorado and a significant suburb of Denver, lying 15 mi (24 km) west of the capital. The city and surrounding area boasts large numbers of green spaces and parks, many containing trails that connect the northwest portion of Metro Denver. An excellent example of the area's interconnectivity is found at the Sand Creek Regional Greenway, which features a 14 mi (22 km) pathway that winds through wooded areas of Aurora, Commerce City and Denver. Aurora contains several destinations that support water-based activities, such as Cherry Creek State Park's 880-acre lake, used for fishing, swimming and boating, and the Aurora Reservoir with its sailing and boating opportunities. Nearby, the culture of the original Native American habitants of Colorado is preserved at the Plains Conservation Center, a two-site exhibit, covering more than 6,800 acres (2,752 ha) with cultural displays of the Cheyenne people and the early pioneers.
